C Scotland Construction was awarded the contract following competitive tendering to improve the external ground space at a Wigan Primary School. The works were undertaken during the summer holidays.
The initial preparation works involved the widening of existing footways and excavation for the construction of a new car park. The existing surface to the playground area was removed to enable resurfacing works.
Excavation works generally required the removal offsite of approximately 150m³ of material. The construction of the new 125m² car park was achieved with the installation of 70m of kerbs and 100mm thick bituminous surfacing on recycled MOT type 1 sub-base 250mm thick.
Footways and playground areas were edged with a combination of pcc and timber edgings with minimum 100mm thick sub-base as required prior to surfacing. Finally all surrounding areas were re landscaped and turfed.
